He is, however, going to let Kominato-kun hold his hand as long as he wants. At the very least, he wants to make sure those fingers warm back up so he can be sure Kominato-kun is relaxing.]
Don't be sorry. The landlord did this. [Would he let Furuya kiss him otherwise? He's really not sure. It's something he's wondered about a lot, though, since that night he collected Sawamura and Kominato-kun and saw a glimpse of shining pink eyes looking up at him under a streetlight.]
Of course. You can stay as long as you need to. [And finally, he can no longer ignore the fox staring holes into him, so this is addressed to Snowball.] You can too but I don't know what to feed you.

he decides he's definitely not going to be the first one to let go, and glances down at snowball, relieved at the little bit of distraction from his own mortification. snowball's petulant reaction--the fox jerks its head up, as if he's turning his nose up at furuya's suggestion--makes haruichi giggle a little, and he reaches down to pat him. he still looks vaguely murderous, and an awful lot like ryousuke. ] I've been feeding him scraps, mostly...he's not picky. Right?
[ snowball swishes his tail and settles behind haruichi, looking balefully up at the two of them, and its that that reminds haruichi of furuya's companion. how could he forget! ] How's Yukiko? Can I see her?
[ furuya-kun is holding my hand is still not completely gone from his thought process, but haruichi is determined to make this feel a little more normal than it does currently. ]

He can, however, do his best to act like it's as natural as it feels. Furuya warms a little when Kominato-kun laughs at the fox's fussiness, but he also nods.] He can have whatever he likes. We can check out the fridge later.
[He's not sure if that makes it better or worse as the fox repositions himself, but it doesn't matter because Kominato-kun's asking after Yukiko.] She's all right, but she's too big to have inside so she's in the back yard. We can go out if you want.
[It's been a little while since he's hung out with his very own personal polar bear, though, so he's already starting toward the back of the house, still with Kominato-kun's hand in his. He stops before he gets too far, though. Otherwise he might pull away and for as eager as he is to see Yukiko, he doesn't want to go without his guest.]

and then, furuya's pulling him along with him, and now that haruichi's a little behind him, he looks down at their hands, his cheeks flushing a little further red as his fingers hesitate, just once, before he tentatively slides his them into the spaces between furuya's for a more definitive hold. he doesn't want to let go and he doesn't communicate anything other than that, a fairly confident move that's more indicative of the lucky boy at the plate than the quiet first year in the classroom.
...except for the fact that he's basically doing everything he can not to trip behind him because he's so embarrassed, but, hey, baby steps.
snowball follows behind them, an ever present little monster who will probably go and tattle on this to ryousuke somehow, but haruichi barely pays him any mind, now curiously trying to peer around furuya's side to get a look at the polar bear before they actually get outside. ] This is the first time I think I've ever gotten close enough to see a polar bear in person... I think aniki and I saw the one at Ueno Zoo when we were kids, but it's been a long time. What's it like, having her around...?

Furuya almost doesn't notice the change in the way Kominato-kun is holding his hand, but when it does sink in, he's glad Kominato-kun is behind him and can't see his face. It feels nice and natural, Kominato-kun's smaller hand in his, and he tightens his grip just a little to try to say so. This is OK.
He stops near the back door to grab a jacket and slip on some shoes, then opens it on a crystal clear, cold night, complete with Yukiko puffing misty breaths from her spot near the pool.]
I saw them at the Asahiyama Zoo when I was younger. They have a display that lets you get really close.
[He does his best to be both a good host and good friend and good bear owner, waiting until Kominato-kun is next to him again before walking them toward Yukiko. The bear, for her part, seems interested but not enough to close the distance herself.]
It's... it's really great. There are so many animals here but they never seem to stay. I hope she does.
