sometimes people come back, apparently, but i don't want to get my hopes up, so yeah. just like that.

[ this shouldn't feel like the summer slipping through their fingers all over again. he should be happy about this, jun gets to go back and do all the things kazuya remembers him doing, isn't living on hold, but. it does, and he's not. it's childish to feel left behind, but he is only seventeen. ]

[even though it's precisely the same as it was before, the room feels a lot emptier all of a sudden. he knows he didn't do anything, he knows it wasn't isashiki-senpai's choice, and he has evidence literally in his hand that he's not alone, but it still stings.]

[ it's a long couple of minutes before kazuya musters a reply. furuya doesn't usually sound - young - but the first three times kazuya reads his message over he's reminded again that furuya and sawamura are first years. ]

people keep saying there's no pattern, but if it's always like this then i wish there WAS one.

[ after less than a minute, there's a second message: ]

you should come over and stay the night.

[ there's a reliable senior right in front of you, too, he'd said, and he still means it. ]

[Furuya's starting to wonder if he said something wrong, but eventually he gets two messages in close succession. He just nods at the first one, but the second one surprises him. He replies as soon as he's recovered, though.]

[No fussing or trying to get Sawamura to leave, no demanding that he get to pitch first. He's already tucking a change of clothes inside his pillow case.]

[ he drums his fingers nervously on the table the entire time he waits to hear back from furuya. he doesn't think he'd made the wrong choice - for all that he was awkward and liked to ignore people saying things he didn't want to hear, furuya has always been so focused on being part of the team it surprised kazuya, still, sometimes. but there's always a chance he's chosen wrong (he's chosen wrong too many times before). ]
